Fernando Casanova, a Catholic theologian and lecturer, is in the country to share with Salvadorans how the Catholic faith should govern family unity and demand that as Catholics we be better people. “I am in El Salvador as part of a moral responsibility. The Church has given me so much in spiritual terms, that it is my responsibility to tell Catholics why they should stay in the Catholic Church and that their mission is to develop as Christians, giving testimony of true Catholics”, affirms Fernando Casanova.
The family, the axis
As part of his tour, the Catholic speaker gave the topic “The family according to reason and revelation.” Attendees of the Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Carmen church, in the Roma neighborhood, knew first-hand his reflection.
The central message was that the family is the basis of everything and it is from it that Catholic principles must be applied. “The family is the image of God. Without it there is no Church, there is no kingdom.”
In this way, Casanova reflected that the family is constantly attacked by moral principles related, for example, to acts such as same-sex marriage, which are already being accepted in other nations.
“The devil’s strategy against the family is no longer paganizing it, it is no longer just dividing it, now it is animalizing it, instilling in our hearts things that go against our nature, against reason, acting irrationally” , he exposed.
Since Fernando Casanova proposes that marriage is an alliance and a pact, he reflects that reasonable love is needed for it to last. “Marriage requires surrender, renunciation. I’m going last. I stake everything for love. This should be the beginning of love in marriage,” he suggests. In this sense, he also made a call to put aside ephemeral or uncompromising romantic proposals, because they are not based on true love.
Call to husbands
On the other hand, the Catholic speaker proposes the husband as the head of the family.
“You as husbands must love your wives as Christ loved his Church, to bless her, protect her and serve her,” he advises.
At the end of his speech, Fernando Casanova called the men attending the conference, who, in an atmosphere of prayer and gratitude, committed themselves to follow the sacraments of the Catholic faith and reproduce them in their families.
“Our parish communities should be spaces where you can have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The challenge we have as Catholics is to be better Christians, and this implies being like Jesus Christ. It is not enough to say with the mouth that I am a Christian, it is not enough to religious affiliation, you have to live the gospel,” he said.
