For the fifth consecutive year, the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí, through the Cultural Diffusion Division, will hold the UASLP Film Festival, which this time will take place from Monday, October 10 to Friday, October 14. The main venue will be the Patio of the Central Building.
12 film screenings, 9 workshops, 4 talks, 4 creative mornings and 1 short film exhibition made up of 11 audiovisual projects are part of the 2022 program that will be held both at university venues in the capital and at foreign campuses and external institutions. This is intended to strengthen the link between established filmmakers and filmmakers in training, as well as to bring new audiences closer to Mexican cinema.
The secretary of Cultural Diffusion, Cynthia Valle Meade stressed that the main objective of the festival is to promote cultural activity and that both the educational community and the general public take advantage of the opportunities to approach experts in audiovisual production.
He mentioned that even with the pandemic, the festival has been held year after year without interruption and recalled that the 2020 edition was virtual, which he described as a wonderful experience, since there was an audience from other places and guests who would not have been able to attend. if the festival had been face-to-face.
In the four previous editions, the UASLP Film Festival has included 95 activities with the participation of 84 invited talents, including actors, actresses, directors and workshop leaders, who have reached an audience made up of 34 thousand 780 people. In addition, four Artistic Career awards have been given to Fernando Luján, Diana Bracho, Héctor Bonilla and Ofelia Medina.
This year, renowned Mexican actress Julieta Egurrola, winner of two Ariel Awards, will receive the Peyote Award for Lifetime Achievement for her more than 40 years of outstanding participation in theater, film and television. This event will be held next Friday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the Patio of the Central Building, where there will also be the participation of the University Symphony Orchestra and a surprise presentation.
The program for the 2022 edition includes the participation of renowned talents such as the prolific actress Arcelia Ramírez, who will be present at the opening of the festival on Monday 10 at 7:00 p.m. in the Central Building, where her feature film “La civil” will be presented. . In addition, she will give a talk on acting on Tuesday, October 11 at 12:00 in the Rafael Nieto auditorium.
On Wednesday the 12th at 11:00 a.m. in the Academic Coordination in Art, the public will be able to listen to the experiences and reflections of the director, screenwriter and animator Carlos Carrera, winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes for best feature film for his film “The Hero ” and seven Ariel awards for his films “Benjamín’s wife”, “Without a sender”, “A spell”, “The crime of father Amaro”, “The hero”, “From the root” and “Blackyard: The backyard”.
The dubbing actress Elsa Covián will be present at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, where she will talk about dubbing in the cinema. In the same venue, the talk “Community cinema. Opportunities and challenges” will be given by Ángeles Cruz, Miriam Bravo, Sandra Luz Barroso and the Argentine director, producer and screenwriter Luciana Kaplan.
Workshops will also be given by specialists such as Luciana Kaplan, who will share her knowledge on “Development of documentary projects”; Axel Muñoz, on “Introduction to sound for cinema”; Elsa Covián, in the “Dubbing Workshop; José de Jesús Guevara, “Fundamentals of Animation”; Carlos Matienzo, “Horror Cinema”; Joaquín Loustanau, “Creation of Characters”; Sandra Flores, “Art Direction for Cinema” ; Gonzalo de la Torre, “Filmmaking even with a smartphone” and Carlos Carrera, “Directing Workshop”.
In the Rafael Nieto auditorium, the films “Field season”, “90 days for July 2”, “The commitment of the shadows”, “The spokeswoman”, “The hole in the fence” and “Mixteco knot” will be presented. . During the screenings there will be the presence of their respective directors, as well as actors and actresses from said feature films.
The activities will extend to the Matehuala and Ciudad Valles campuses, where horror short films, the film “Principio y fin” by Arturo Ripstein and “El hoyo en la cerca” will be screened. In addition, there will be a screening of “La civil” on Tuesday the 11th in the main square of Ciudad Valles, at 7:00 p.m. This edition also has the collaboration of UNIAT and the San Luis Potosí Arts Center.
