Sad news continues within the world of television, just a few weeks after the death of Anthony Bourdain, today another innovator of cultural programs has passed away. Richard Harrison, famous for being «Grandpa» from the family of The Price of History (2009-present) passed away this morning in a Las Vegas hospital.

The news was made public by his son, Rick, who reported through Instagram that the war veteran died accompanied by his family and loved ones.

The “Old Man” had been fighting Parkinson’s for a couple of years, showing courage because not even in his worst moments did he abandon the production of the program and his pawn shop.

According to what was communicated by his son, -«Richard Benhamin ‘The Elder’ Harrison died this morning. He will be missed within our family, the Gold & Silver team and the fans he has gathered around the world. He was my hero and I was very lucky to call this ‘Old Man’ my dad.«-, he begins by recounting his personal relationship.

He lived a full life and through the television show he managed to touch the lives of many people, teaching them the value of loving your family, working hard and taking things with humor. We appreciate the thoughts and prayers of those who want to give them, as well as asking them to give us a moment of privacy in this difficult situation.«-, ended up remarking the protagonist of the reality show.

Known as Old Man, El Viejo or El Evaluador, Richard was co-owner of the family pawn shop, Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, which he founded in 1989 when he was 48 years old in the company of his eldest son, Rick Harrison.

This was the business that he opened with the intention of retiring from military life, as he was a brilliant soldier who served the Navy for more than 20 years, achieving first-class ranks. His work in the store was unstoppable, he was the first to enter his office and the last to leave, it was even said in the program that he had not taken a day off since 1994.

Although the store became an iconic place for the city, he became internationally famous thanks to the television program he created with his son and grandson, The price of historywhich was bought by the History Channel in 2008 and began airing a year later.

His idea caused a great furor within cultural programs and gave the channel a new face. The way of telling fragments of history through the objects that the vendors brought to the premises marked a revolution in the way in which it was thought that an educational program regarding history had to be produced.

Until now, none of its ten seasons has fallen below five million audiences and its success has created a laughable number of spin-offs focused on its specialists, practically the entire current staff of History Channel is the work of its success.
