2004.-THE KINGS OF SPAIN PRESIDE IN ALMERIA THE DAY OF THE ARMED FORCES
The Kings Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía preside in Almería the main act of the Day of the Armed Forces, where a tribute was paid to all the Spanish military units that had participated or are currently participating in humanitarian and peace missions. Salustiano Polo when he left us was only 51 years old. Fans of his time remember him asking for the ball close to Franco Navarro’s wing, making a dribble to accurately put a cross into the heart of the area. Polo, his soccer name, was born on October 24, 1952 in the north of the province of Almería, in Nacimiento. 1966.-CLINT EASTWOOD IN ALMERIA
The then almost unknown American actor Clint Eastwood arrives in Almería, on a day like today, but fifty-six years ago to take part in the filming of the film “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”. 1973.- THE ARBITRATOR FERNÁNDEZ BORBALÁN IS BORN
Soccer referee David Fernández Borbalán is born. He debuted in the First Division on September 12, 2004 in the match played in Valencia between Levante and Racing Club de Santander. After his promotion to the First Division, Fernández Borbalan, an international referee, became the second Almerian to referee in the highest category after Juan Andújar Oliver
2006.- THEY STOLEN A TWO-METER CHRIST FROM THE CHURCH OF SIERRO
The theft of a two-meter Christ from the Church of Sierro, among other objects of the parish, was the news of that day 16 years ago today in this municipality of the Alto Almanzora region. The Civil Guard’s investigation allowed the slightly damaged image to be recovered, dating from the 18th century, arresting a young resident of the town as the alleged perpetrator of the peculiar theft. 1981.- THE CRIME OF THE BOXER
Boxer Juan Torres Salmerón fatally stabbed in a violent brawl that occurred during the Los Molinos festivities. The boxer was attacked by a group of people with whom he had old disagreements, one of whom during the fight and in the riot stabbed him in the chest that cost the young boxer his life before he was surgically intervened. . The author, a resident of the Puche neighborhood, was arrested by the Police shortly after the event occurred.
1988.-RIOT IN THE ACEBUCHE PRISON
Mutiny in the provincial prison of Acebuche. Up to fourteen officials, some of them teachers, were held for twelve hours by a group of inmates asking to improve their current situation. Inmate Zamoro Duran led the riot. There was a huge police deployment and even the GAR of the Civil Guard were alerted to release the hostages, but finally the kidnapping was solved without problems without regretting any kind of personal misfortune.
2020.- FORMER FOOTBALL PLAYER ANTONIO MARTÍNEZ UFARTE DIES
He was 64 years old and played as a central defender and midfielder defending the jerseys of the Agrupación Deportiva Almería, Poli Almería and Poli Ejido during the 1970s and 1980s, although his sports career also entered the 1990s. A native of Enix’s Marchal, he began playing at the Parador, played for Aguadulce and while still a kid he caught the attention of AD Almería, a team with which he would make his debut under coach Ben Barek.
