Secrets revealed by the writer
For its part, Jeremy Adamsthe production’s screenwriter, revealed some important details of the film exclusively with CBM. This, for example, is the first from DC that mixes 2D with CG. In addition, he referred to the original bisexuality of Jonathan Kent.
“Super Sons was such a unique venture because it was when I was making a lego aquaman… I think it was the first time I worked with Rick Morales and we were becoming friends. We were talking and he showed me the Super Sons comic. She had seen it, but had not read it. He told me that he dreamed of doing it in 3D and one thing Rick likes to do is throw a hand grenade at an idea in my brain and then I can’t stop thinking about it. I read it and thought, ‘This is great. This is so wonderful. These two characters are amazing together. A farmer and a rehab killer work perfectly as a team,” he said.
“Over the years, Rick and I have continued to talk about this story. We exchanged ideas and tried to give it the green light. They said we couldn’t because they were going to do it somewhere else or something, and they said no for a couple of years. Then there was a weird window of time when Rick was involved in another project and said, “Can’t we just do it?” and finally they said, “Sure!” I already had it written in my mind after talking about it. for years, so a day later, the outline was made since we knew what the story was. We had always fantasized about it being in CG. I guess it’s more expensive so we didn’t think that would be a possibility,” he continued.
He ended by delving into the type of animation, saying, “I didn’t adapt the story to that, but I was writing it with CG in mind because it was Rick’s dream. Rick is really good at it and he knows how to get a lot out of it, even from my first credited project, Green Lantern: The Animated Series. This was a new version in which the film looks 2D plane in a sphere 3D, so I was really excited that Rick was able to do his dream. I said, ‘Wow. This is incredible. It was really in the facial features that I suddenly realized how much emotion can be conveyed in that kind of animation.”
Similarly, Adams responded to a controversial question. It’s about the sexual orientation by Jonathan Kent, who is bisexual in the comics. Did he have it in mind when designing the script?
“I don’t think that’s the story I should tell. I’m much more interested in following the antics of little kids and getting them into adventures. Honestly, I could have… I enjoyed it so much I could write that forever. The adventures speak a lot about when I was a child. It’s not something that I feel I have the right to explore in any way. I prefer to stay with them as children and live vicariously as children doing childish things [Risas]”, he clarified.
“That’s one of the joys of being a parent: seeing my daughters watching something that I used to watch in the past and enjoying it. That’s what I’m really trying to do with Jonathan and Damian as we watch their friendship develop. That’s what I do when I write the comic Flash also. It’s escapism where you can go on adventures. Whether you read the comics or watch the movies…exploratory emotional stuff is for someone with a more skillful hand.”
Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons will be available on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray and HBO Max on October 18, 2022.
