Bright Nights begins its opening for the Christmas season

Every year, Bright Nights at Forest Park manages to get a little more cheery and bright.

“Certainly we will be happier for those who walk through our doors this year,” said Judith A. Matt, president of Spirit of Springfield. “As far as getting brighter, all of our lights have been switched to LEDs, so it can’t get much brighter than that.”

As car drivers enter Forest Park’s premier Christmas light display, joining the more than 6 million visitors from around the world who have visited Bright Nights over the years, they will be greeted at the front door. with some giant red flowers at Poinsettia Fantasy, then continue your tour of exhibit viewing by viewing exhibits called American Flag, Spirit of the Season, Winter Garden, Springfield Thunderbirds, MGM Springfield, and Seuss Land.

“It’s after Seuss Land in Santa’s Magical Forest that the extra joy begins this year,” Matt said. “We called it Santa’s Magic Forest on purpose.”

The Man in the Red Suit will tour his home away from home on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays through December 23 from 5:30 pm to 8 pm So visitors don’t miss Santa’s Magical Forest, which appears quite quickly in your journey through Bright Nights, there are now candy cane light displays leading into Santa’s Magical Forest that say rides, presents, snacks and turn to enter the area.

Once inside Santa’s Magical Forest, you too can take a selfie with friends or family between two additional large, light-up candy canes with a 2022 Bright Nights sign. It also houses the Bight Nights gift shop, a children’s carousel and a refreshment stand.

Santa’s Magical Forest will also be the site of special musical performances by local high school choral groups featuring the West Springfield High School Choir on Wednesday, November 30 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm; and First Lutheran Christian School Middle School Choir on Tuesday, December 6 from 6 pm to 8:30 pm

There will also be free face painting from 5:30-7:30pm on December 5, 12 and 19, and on December 14 there will be a special appearance by the Snow Queen and Ice Princess from 5:30-8pm.

As guests exit Santa’s Magical Forest, they will turn left to continue their journey past the Peace Garden, Jurassic World, Victorian Village, Barney Mansion, Leaping Frog, Winter Woods, North Pole Village, Toy Land, Giant Poinsettia Candles and ending with Happy Holidays, Springfield.

This year’s Bright Nights runs through Sunday, January 1. The hours are from Sunday to Thursday from 5 pm to 9 pm; Friday, Saturday and holidays from 5 pm to 10 pm; and buses with priority reservations from 5 pm to 6 pm The Northeast’s premier holiday light display is open on Christmas Eve, Christmas, Old Years and New Years.

Ticket prices are $23 per car, limousines are $35, minibuses that seat 17-31 are $80, and buses that seat 31+ are $175.

The special discount days will take place on December 6 and 13 when admission is $10. Tickets must be purchased in advance at brightnights.org or at Big Y World Class Markets for $16.50 with your Silver Savings Club card.
