A rookie Spider-Man is in town to take over. Impressions Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales for PC and Steam Deck.
A 2018 Sony published exclusively for PlayStation Marvel’s Spider-Man, a game from Insomniac Games that aimed to bring glory back to superhero games. And boy was it so. The game turned out to be tremendously fun and of exquisite taste that was able to delight the most fans of spider-man, and the not-so-fans. Some time later and with the launch of PlayStation 5, some kind of expansion or minor game was announced focused on another Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Now the game comes to PC and Steam Deck, and we’ll tell you what we think of the port.
First of all, if you want to read the in-depth analysis of the video game, we leave you in this link the analysis that we did to the PlayStation 5 version in its day, telling what we thought of the game and delving into its main mechanics.
In summary, about Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales we said the following: A great first approach to the new generation, with a protagonist who exudes charisma and has earned his name by hand. On the other hand, due to its duration, it gives the impression of being a self-playing expansion like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, but it includes new gameplay and graphics to make it worthwhile. Of course, after his final cliffhanger we have the doubt. Maybe a future Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 with the possibility of playing cooperatively controlling both heroes? I wish.
A great port to PC
However, what interests us here is its performance on PC and on the Steam Deck, and what can we say about its performance? Well, the first thing to say is that the game has been run on an Asus Rog laptop with an AMD Ryzen 7 4800HS processor and an NVIDIA 2060 graphics card, so we are not dealing with the most cutting-edge on the market, but with a pretty machine. solvent.
We’ve been able to run the game consistently above 60fps at 1080p and with graphics on High, the second highest setting. However, to achieve this fluidity and definition we had to sacrifice ray-tracing, since activating it meant a much greater load and for the game to be fluid (more than 30 fps) we had to sacrifice a lot of graphic quality.
On the other hand, the game allows us to make use of the famous DLSS, the similar AMD technology that is FSR 2.1 and the IGT technology from Insomniac Games. Thanks to this and the configuration that it allows, we can balance the game better and mark the desired number of frames per second so that the game adjusts automatically and while we are playing to achieve that rate of images per second playing with the resolution. A very useful tool that will serve, above all, to adapt the game and improve the playable experience on less powerful machines.
Enjoy like few others on Steam Deck
However, in the world of gaming on PC now enters a new machine that interests everyone and that has its own configurations: the Steam Deck from Valve. The first thing to note is that Miles Morales in the Steam Launch Deck has full compatibility verification for the new Valve machine, so we won’t have to make too many moves to be able to run the game on the machine.
Now, as expected, the performance on the Steam Deck is not as glamorous as it is on an upper-middle-range PC. With the native resolution of the Valve machine, that is, 1280×800, the most balanced configuration considering the battery of the machine is to set the graphics to High and activate the FSR 2.1 so that it maintains the fps at 40- 45, also limiting this in the Steam Deck configuration.
In this way we managed to make the game run at 40 fps with some minor drop (but not annoying), with sufficient graphic quality that sometimes distorts a bit when we move at high speeds through the city and with a superior battery life. After two hours. With all this, we are not facing a great configuration, but it is good enough to see the game smoothly and with very little loss of graphic quality, which is much less noticeable when playing on a small screen.
A great excuse to return
In short, this is a good port of the game from Sony to PC. The Japanese company continues with its policy of bringing its games to PC and the truth is that the efforts and desire to do its job well are becoming more and more noticeable. So, if you were waiting for the game, you’re in luck, because this is a more than remarkable product that more than meets quality standards and is perfectly enjoyable both on powerful computers and on more limited ones and, of course, on the Steam Deck.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales finds in its port to PC an excellent reason to fall in love again with its swinging and combat. With many graphic options to adjust the game to our machines, the game achieves a more than satisfactory performance both on PC and on Steam Deck, a machine on which many will want to replay the adventure of Miles Morales before the release of the long-awaited sequel.
