The path of Marvel Studios continues with the early conclusion of phase 4 and the arrival of the beginning of phase 5 next year. With practically the entire fifth phase already announced, many are waiting for news about the new installment of what is possibly the most beloved Marvel character. Spider-Man: No Way Home left the door open to a facet of the character in the MCU that everyone is eager to explore. However, this could still take a considerable time, since according to the words of Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds) Spider-Man 4 would be far from happening.
Spider-Man: No Way Home was the biggest event of the year for Marvel Studios in 2021. Released in December, the film broke box office records in one of Spidey’s most memorable adventures on film. No Way Home was considered a gift for fans of the superhero and a celebration of a long cinematic journey. Of course, what made us happiest was the opportunity to see Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield don the Spider-Man suit once again.
For Jacob Batalon there is no hope that Spider-Man 4 will become a reality
The character of Ned Leeds played by Jacob Batalon in Marvel Studio’s Spider-Man trilogy has caught the attention of fans in recent months. This is in the face of the possibility that Leeds could become a threat to Spidey in the form of the Hobgoblin as has happened in the pages of the comics. After the end of No Way Home and Peter Parker being unknown to humanity, this plot would be ideal to bring Jacob Batalon’s Ned Leeds into Spider-Man 4.
But in an interview with Collider, Jacob Batalon has shared his thoughts on the eventual fourth installment of Spider-Man at Marvel Studios. His opinion on this point is not the most optimistic and possibly not the one we would all like to hear:
“I feel like the actors are the last to know. I think people assume that we actors are always hiding secrets. I promise you, we don’t know anything. But again, if it’s the right place, at the right time, with the right group of people that we’ve been with, I’d say why not? But outside of that, whatever happens, will happen. Those decisions are really made by the big bosses, the people who sign the checks. We are open to the idea, but we are not waiting for it.”
When asked about the idea of working with a different director, he re-emphasized that he wasn’t expecting Spider-Man 4 to happen:
“I honestly don’t think about it much. I feel like we’re all moving on paths where we’re not expecting it to happen. It’s not that it’s bad, we’re just not anticipating a new movie. I just feel like we’re doing our own thing. But again, whatever happens, will happen.”
When could Spider-Man 4 arrive?
So, at this point, it looks like Spider-Man 4 isn’t happening any time soon. Although in the case of Spider-Man, it seems difficult that the character does not become part of the events of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. If the fourth installment of the wall-crawler had a place in the near future, it would possibly be in phase 6 that will start with Fantastic Four.
It would also remain to be seen if this fourth installment would have the original cast of the trilogy that ended with No Way Home. Especially considering the outcome of the film. But without a doubt, the Hobgoblin plot seems to be an ideal starting point for the future of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
