Criticism

Mass

At the beginning of September I had the opportunity to see «Mass». I saw it at the last edition of the San Sebastián film festival; The film was released in US theaters on October 8, but at the moment there is no scheduled release date in Spain.

If I had to describe the movie in one word it would be with the word “sorry”, because the movie of Mass directed by Fran Kranz tells the story of two married couples who, despite the difficulties and insecurities they have had, manage to get together to talk about the tragedy that befell their children, who were victims (in one way or another) of an armed attack by part of one of them.

I describe the film with the word “sorry”, because at all times it is what is sought in that conversation that both couples have. Despite the hatred, anger, despair or anguish that is perceived during the film, they end up forgiving each other later because they realize that it is the only thing that can get them out of that feeling of accepting what happened, and coming back again. to live in peace.

The film takes place in a single location, which makes it not very dynamic, although it can be said that this is replaced by the intensity that is present in the characters at all times.

Lastly, I would like to highlight the wonderful performance of the four main actors, since being in the same location and having the same conversation throughout the film manage to capture the viewer’s attention at all times.
