‘Rick and Morty 6×08’ and his great scatological parody of Iron Man, Pissmaster

Although the die-hard fans are still delighted and the truth is that the box office, perhaps more out of habit than passion, always supports him, it seems that the idea that Phase 4 of Marvel It has been, to be mild, a small downturn compared to Phase 3. We are no longer talking about a lack of epic, of new protagonists with less charisma than the previous ones or of old rockers who perhaps have already gone around too many times. The problem with growing up, as seen in Phase 4, is that Marvel is already so big that all it knows how to talk about is itself. A movie can be supported by surprises and cameos but, little by little, the lie is falling. Isn’t it a big problem that the best of Spider-Man: No Way Home whoever comes out, that the best of The Eternals be the post-credits or the most emotional Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Is it the memory of a deceased actor in real life from the opening credits?

Someday, though perhaps not anytime soon if the box office keeps renting them, Marvel will have to go back to making an exciting story, and a well-choreographed battle that shows off that much-earned money with ease. If not, they can overtake you on the right. And no, we are not talking about DC, which gives us its usual one of lime and the other of sand, if not of rick and morty. The animated series has been messing with the world of superheroes almost from the beginning, with parodies of The Avengers and all kinds of superhero groups. However, none had been especially inspired, until now.

In an episode where Nimbus reappears, that sickening parody of Aquaman, Rick and Morty tackles the absurdity of absurd superheroes. Rick, like Kevin Feige, has already had so many superheroes that things start to lose meaning. That’s why Rick goes to therapy and agrees with his doctor that the solution, for once, must be to ignore all those jerks. Then Pissmaster arrives at his house, a superhero who flies and urinates everywhere. Rick puts up with it but Jerry, after joking Pissmaster with giving his daughter Summer a golden shower, decides to take action on the matter. Footage of Jerry beating up the then disgusting villain goes universally viral. The fame of the failed family man grows so much that an interplanetary association of justice gives him an orb of power, one from which Rick makes him a suit in a clear reference to Iron Man and his power source.

The thing, of course, does not end there and it is that if Rick and Morty stands out for something, it is for its extraordinary narrative conciseness in self-conclusive chapters of only twenty minutes. Jerry becomes a hero, and Rick knows from experience that it can’t last long. As he smells something, he decides to go to Pissmaster’s house and discovers that he has cut his wrists. A suicide letter points to Jerry and his universal humiliation as the sole cause. Just as he is about to leave, the Pissmaster’s daughter arrives, depressed and worried about her father. Rick pretends to be Pissmaster to comfort her and tell her that if she kills herself it won’t be her fault, but he soon sees that it’s not enough. Rick disguises himself as a pissmaster and decides to make him a hero before faking his death, also heroically.

He does it in the same way that Nolan’s Batman ended his trilogy, taking with him, far from the city, a bomb. But where Nolan dropped his pants and didn’t have the courage or power to heroically kill Batman (shameful that little cafe in Florence with Catwoman), Pissmaster triumphs. His daughter and his family cry, but with joy, seeing how his father has died “like a hero.” Jerry, who had not taken the rise to popularity of Pissmaster, his archenemy, at all well, ends up being evidenced by trying to prevent the feat and he is expelled from the justice society, losing the orb and therefore the functionality of his suit. .

The references to Iron Man’s sacrifice, from the suit to saying goodbye to his daughter, are there. But above all what we find is a story with heart, with characters, with twists. And, taking into account that the protagonist is a being that urinates everywhere, we can only ask ourselves, is Marvel really that difficult?
