They are Francisco López Merino at the Alejandro Rivera Diaz Commercial Institute; German Pizarro Rojo, at the Jorge Alessandri Rodríguez high school and Jimmy Díaz Canto, ratified again as head of the Mercedes Fritis Mackenney Bicentennial high school.

After an exhaustive process of analysis, administrative work and interviews, by the way, through public competition -by the High Public Management system (ADP)-, carried out in coordination with the Civil Service, the Local Public Education Service (SLEP) of Atacama informed the names of the education professionals, who assume as new directors of educational establishments in the province of Copiapó.

In this framework, the executive director (S) of the SLEP of Atacama, Pedro Lagos Arancibia declared that “during today’s session, we have met together with the heads of the units and departments of the local service with the new directors to wish them a pleasant welcome, offer our collaboration and support, and convey a very important message, which is to always work with dialogue, with will, respect, a sense of collaboration and always with unity”.

“This is great news and we call on the new and current directors of our educational establishments to continue working with strength and hope for our children, adolescents and young people. Together we must achieve the objectives and goals proposed in our Local Annual Plan, in our Local Strategic Plan, always considering the guidelines of our Minister of Education and the National Strategy for Public Education. Working with unity is key”, added Pedro Lagos Arancibia.

The new directors are Francisco López Merino at the Alejandro Rivera Diaz Commercial Institute in Copiapó; German Pizarro Rojo, at the Jorge Alessandri Rodríguez high school in Tierra Amarilla and Jimmy Díaz Canto, ratified again as head of the Mercedes Fritis Mackenney Bicentennial high school in the regional capital.

In the case of German Pizarro Rojo, it should be noted that he has been working at the Jorge Alessandri Lyceum in the mining district for 18 years. He studied and graduated from pedagogy and a degree in education and is currently completing a master’s degree in educational management and leadership.

“The reception and welcome given to us by each of the Atacama SLEP headquarters is highly valued. It was a great opportunity for conversation and useful, which has to do with the sense of belonging, where it is expressed that we are all part of the local service and not see anyone as an external agent. This greatly strengthens the look and vision that we have of collaborative work that is so necessary to be able to articulate ourselves jointly with each of the establishments, their directors and with each of the heads of the service, “said Pizarro Rojo.

The new director of the Copiapó Commercial Institute, Francisco López Merino, is a professor of History and Geography. He began his educational career at the Border Concentration School of Los Loros, Tierra Amarilla, particularly teaching classes. He then worked in the Technical Pedagogical Unit and finally was director of the educational establishment.

“Today we had a very positive meeting, in terms of teamwork, that is, we talked about establishing a new work culture, which must be based on agreements. We are all SLEP, therefore, this leads to the realization that the processes are developed together. Very positive welcome meeting. I take on this great challenge with great enthusiasm and projections to improve the quality of public education in the region.”

Finally, Jimmy Díaz Canto, continues as director of the Liceo Bicentenario Mercedes Fritis Mackenney after being ratified in his position. With 35 years of experience at the service of education, the Biology and Science teacher was the winner of the public contest for the High Public Management system.

“The challenges are enormous. Education is, today, in a less complex situation, but we think that, with teamwork, which the Deputy Executive Director of SLEP has called us to execute, we can move forward and meet the goals we have set for ourselves. What I rescue the most is the call to work together, all as part of a single element that is the SLEP. We are all part of it and we must work based on that”, concluded Díaz Canto.
