‘Breath of the Wild’, in addition to the last episode of the saga ‘Zelda‘, is one of the most important games in history. It is because of its narrative, also because of its artistic bill, but mainly because of the creation of one of the most alive open worlds we have been able to experience in a video game.
Since its appearance we have enjoyed the fantastic remakes of ‘The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening’ or ‘The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD’, but we were looking forward to a continuation of the saga.
After some delay that we forgive, we already have an official name and date for its sequel, baptized as ‘The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom‘.
The reality is that information about the game is scarce, beyond what we see in the trailers prepared by Nintendo. As expected, the Zelda community has not been slow to interpret them to generate a multitude of theories.

‘tears of the kingdom’ release date
Too many details yet to be known about the new episode of the saga, but at least we can share one key: the May 12, 2023 It will be its official launch worldwide.
We remind you that in the first trailer we received, it was reported that the launch window would be in 2022, so we will experience a small delay. In the case of Nintendo, it can be interpreted as something positive, since its philosophy is to release the games when they are really finished.
Expectations are very high, when it comes to the first ‘Zelda’ conceived from scratch for Switch, since the previous game was developed with the Wii U console as a base. It will be difficult for it to surprise at the level that ‘Breath of the Wild’ did, but all the ingredients point to it being a magnum opus.
Origins of the new Zelda: from DLC to sequel
Nintendo was originally working on additional downloadable content (DLC) for ‘Breath of the Wild’, but so many ideas came up that the producer, Eiji Aonuma, decided that all of it It was enough to start shaping a sequel.
From this decision we can understand that the new game has been in development since 2017. Another confirmed detail is that the director of the new episode is Hidemaro Fujibayashiresponsible for titles like ‘Breath of the Wild’ or ‘Skyward Sword’.
We expect a darker ‘Zelda’
The three trailers that Nintendo has shared do not delve into the history of the video game, but they invite us to think about a plot with a darker and more mysterious tone than its predecessor.
Aonuma, head of the work, has already announced in an interview that the approach will be more similar to what we saw in ‘The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask’ or ‘The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess’.
As for the story, we expect a direct sequel to ‘Breath of the Wild’, with the same Link and Zelda as in ‘Breath of the Wild’only some time after defeating the Cataclysm after 100 years of fighting.
In the skies of Hyrule
We not only expect the same main characters, but also the same setting: the land of Hyrule. The game is being built on the world that ‘Breath of the Wild’ envisioned, but with the addition that much of the development will take place in the skies.
The heights and verticality of the new world will be very important in the sequel. Over the vast lands of Hyrule, a multitude of islands appear in the sky, which will make exploration feel completely new, with new mechanics that allow us to move between scenarios.
One change we can expect is that the game will impose a somewhat more linear development than ‘Breath of the Wild’, where the freedom to move forward was total. At Nintendo they have not been shy about saying that they have been inspired by the adventure progress system such as ‘Red Dead Redemption 2‘. In short, a vast world to explore, with a somewhat more linear narrative.
Link’s arm and new abilities
It has not gone unnoticed by anyone: Link’s arm has undergone important changes. Already in the first trailer of 2019 we could verify that a mysterious green energy emanated from his right limb. When Link wears clothing that reveals his body, marks can be seen up to shoulder height.
All theories point to it being the new source of power for this episode. This allows us to carry out some of the novelties confirmed in the previews: the possibility of reverse the motion of certain objects through time or pass through solid surfaces.
It has also claimed the attention of fans the curious artifact on Link’s waist. It seems to carry a substance in different cartridges. Again the green color predominates in her and could be related to the power of her arm. Many point to this system as a replacement for the Sheikah Stone from the previous game.
To plan in the previous game we had a kind of paraglider, but now a new contraption has emerged – they call it a manta ray – that will allow us to fly with greater consistency. It will be necessary in view of the new locations in ‘The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’.
As for the weapons, it looks like they will continue to break with use. There will be news like a flamethrower for the left arm in the shape of a dragon’s head.
The Master Sword appears damaged
A fundamental part in all the episodes of the ‘Zelda’ games, in ‘The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’ it was not going to be different. Of course, here its staging is peculiar, since it is broken in the latest trailer for the game.
Its importance is such that in the logo of the new game it appears like this exposed: the handle in perfect condition, the half damaged, and the final part of the blade drawn with the green tone that we can relate to the energy of the game.
Many speculate that it will be part of the main plot have to fix the Master Sword and restore his powers, with the ultimate goal of defeating evil.
The mystery of the Zonnan
We enter fully into the field of theories, but there is little doubt that the trailers of the game make constant references to the zonnan civilization. In fact, in ‘Breath of the Wild’ there is an optional and ruined area that is related to this tribe.
It is very possible that Link’s new powers in ‘The Legend Of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom’ have to do with the Zonnan, a supposedly extinct people with a lot of relationship with magic. Also the new look that we can see in the character would be related to them.
