Zack Snyder wanted to face Superman and Brainiac in the sequel to Man of Steel

Despite the success of the new version of Justice League At HBO Max, Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. Pictures do not have a healthy relationship, which has left any project of the filmmaker in the DC Comics universe out of the plans. And to make this story even sadder, Snyder himself has revealed some canceled plans for Man of Steel 2.

Superman returned to the big screen in the summer of 2013 with Man of Steel, the first film of the DCEU and the first attempt by Warner and DC to put a competitor to Marvel Studios and its MCU. This film received mixed reviews from critics, but was widely approved by fans. Unfortunately, the rush forced the sequel to become the preamble to the Justice League and not in an exclusive sequel to the last son of krypton.

That was how Zack Snyder’s plans for Man of Steel 2 were postponed until the presentation of the Justice League. And again bad news, because the cut in theaters of The Justice League it forced Warner Bros. to rethink their projects and Snyder was left without opportunities to return as director. Therefore, all we have left now are the plans the filmmaker had for the Man of Steel.

Zack Snyder told the podcast of brobible the ideas I had for Man of Steel 2a tape where not only could we have seen more about the Kryptonians, but it will be antagonized by Brainiacone of the most popular superhero villains.

This is how Zack Snyder told it:

“We are talking about a Brainiac movie (the sequel to Man of Steel). But I do think that the Kryptonians that are in the Phantom Zone are probably still out there. And there was always the possibility that they would return; Faora and those who remain. That was something that was always there when we talked about a possible sequel.

I think it’s best to give Superman these alien challenges because that’s something he has to be careful about – besides Lex Luthor, because of course you have to continue with Lex, because Lex is his true nemesis – but I think you really have to look outside from Earth looking for challenges for him (Superman) because of how powerful he is.”

Brainiac is one of the most popular villains of Superman and the entire DC Comics universe. Despite having a physical body, Brainiac can be considered a consciousness, with knowledge that covers the entire multiverse and space, with the ability to control entire bodies and realities. A villain who does not need to resort to violence to face the Man of Steel.

During the interview, Zack Snyder also mentioned that although Warners is producing a new Superman movie, with JJ Abrams, it is unlikely that they are continuing the ideas mentioned. As far as we know, the new Superman for the cinema will seek to be an African-American version of the character, which could bear the name of Clark Kent.

On the other hand, Zack Snyder insists that his vision of Superman in the DCEU always sought to present an idea: “what if we really did have a superman?”.

Would you have liked to see a sequel to Man of Steel?
